PsyCoun Institute is a non-profit membership association sponsored by PsyCoun Consultants and governed by both the School Counselor Advisory Board and the Social Worker Advisory Board.  PsyCoun institute is dedicated to providing low-cost timely, practical training for counselors and social workers.

Empower Youth to Combat Anxiety *

Anxiety is the number one health problem in America and it’s on the rise among school-aged youth.  As worry and fears grow, are they really unmanageable or can they be contained and controlled?  This workshop will present simple yet effective counseling strategies that empower youth to manage their anxious thoughts and feelings.  Participants will learn to recognize anxiety in each of its forms along with common causes and treatment methods.  In accordance with Lauryn’s Law, recommendations for both parents and teachers will be included.  Be ready to collaborate with other counselors in sharing familiar experiences and exploring fresh new ideas.

Career Construction Practice

This workshop is for those who have previously learned about Career Construction Theory, but are not fully comfortable using it in their own practice.  No specific training or level of expertise is required.  We will spend a full day practicing using the Savickas process on each other.  We will also discuss our concerns and experiences in using this powerful technique.  We will spend very little time on theory and no time on review, although we are happy to provide review materials for your personal use before the workshop.  Lunch is included in the price.

Creative Supervision Techniques
by Gayle Cicero, Jenn Watkinson, and Liz Burton

Participate in a variety of experiential activities to support the supervision of counseling, psychology, or social work interns/students. The workshop will focus on using creative strategies rooted in a constructivist philosophy to guide supervision discussions. Strategies will include using art, metaphors, and mindfulness to support the role of the supervisor.

  1. Participants will engage in experiential supervision strategies to support the development of counselors, psychologist, and social workers.
  2. Participants will identify the tenets of constructivist supervision.
