Karol Taylor, M.A., GCDF-I, has more than 28 years of federal service as an internal employee development consultant, and 20+ years in career counseling. Karol brings a broad perspective and considerable expertise to the career management process. Working in the training office for a small government agency offered Karol a wide variety of career counseling/ academic advising-related experiences. Moving on to an Encore Career as a private practitioner in career development, she taught job search courses for Baltimore County One-Stops and developed a federal job search curriculum still in use today.
Karol graduated with an MA in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, where each of her internships were completed at Prince George’s Community College Career Center. Karol is a certified Job and Career Transitions Coach, and an ICF-Certified Career Management Coach.
Karol has been an active member of the Maryland Career Development Association (MCDA) since 2004, when she served as President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President and went on to serve as Publicity Chair until 2016. In 2016, Karol left her post at MCDA to run for Maryland Counseling Association’s (MCA) President-Elect. Karol’s tenure as MCA President-Elect began July 2016, and will continue as the 2017 President, and 2018 Immediate Past President. Karol has been a member of the National Career Development Association since 2004, where she currently serves on the Awards Committee and previously served on the Nominations Committee.
In 2014 Karol received the National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) Merit Award and in 2016, NCDA’s Outstanding Career Professional Award. Karol received the following MCDA Awards: 2011 President’s Award, 2014 Technological Innovative Award, and 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013 Karol received the Middle Atlantic Career Counseling’s Outstanding Career Practitioner Award.
Karol is the coauthor of two books published by JIST, America’s Guide to Federal Jobs and Find Your Federal Job Fit. She has had job search articles published by the National Career Development Association, the Association for Career Professionals, International, the National Employment Counseling Association, ATD’s Public Manager, and ACA’s VISTAS publication.
Karol has taught 15+ F2F and hybrid GCDF courses since she became a certified instructor in 2005. More than 50 people from her courses have gone on to obtain their GCDF certification. Karol also served as an Adjunct Professor at Prince George’s Community College, where she taught career-related courses. Karol regularly presents at professional conferences including the America Counseling Association, National Employment Counseling Association, National Career Development Association, and the Maryland Career Development Association.
